Dr Sojin Lim
Dr Lim is a Reader in Asia Pacific Studies here with her expertise in international aid policy and practice. She works as Co-Director of the International Institute of Korean Studies (IKSU) and is co-Editor of the Routledge Research on Korea series as well as is Editor in Chief of the Asia Pacific Viewpoint Journal (Wiley).
Dr Lim mainly teaches subjects related to sustainable development, political economy and globalisations, and fragile states and accountability on her expertise in both Koreas. She welcomes PhD proposals on international aid, ODA, development assistance, including development finance, global norms and accountability, South-South and Triangular Cooperation, or comparative studies of development in countries.
She has published policy papers, journal articles, book chapters, and books on issues mostly focussed on ODA, sustainable development, public policy, and political economy. One of her most recent publications includes a monograph, International Aid and Sustainable Development in North Korea: A Country Left Behind with Cloaked Society (2023). Sojin has been invited to various media interviews domestically and internationally, such as appearing on BBC. Prior to joining us, Dr Lim worked for aid agencies, including Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and Export-Import Bank of Korea, as senior research fellow with hands-on field experiences. She also contributed to various projects with international organisations, such as UN, ILO, OECD, WB and ADB.
