Georgia studied the BA (Hons) Business and Management top-up degree at our partner Hugh Baird College. She shares how the supportive environment, smaller classes, and practical assignments helped her rediscover her love for learning and plan her next steps in education.
Choosing to study the BA (Hons) Business and Management top-up at Hugh Baird College was one of the best decisions I’ve made. As a parent returning to education, the smaller class sizes and supportive environment were exactly what I needed. The teachers were understanding and approachable, which made me feel confident and comfortable right from the start.
The facilities at Hugh Baird are excellent, with plenty of study areas, quiet zones, and access to laptops if you need them. Having an on-site café and a library just across the road was also really convenient.
What attracted me to the course was my previous experience with business—I studied it in school and sixth form, completed a business admin apprenticeship, and wanted to expand my skills and knowledge. The assignments were engaging, often based on real-world businesses, which made the learning process enjoyable and relevant. Writing about companies I interact with daily gave me a new perspective on how they operate, and I found many of the business theories fascinating.

One of the highlights of my time here was the friendships I’ve made. These connections, along with the progression activities organised by the university, have given me a great foundation for life after graduation. My next goal is to complete a PGCE and hopefully become a teacher at Hugh Baird University Centre.
To anyone thinking about studying, especially if you’ve been out of education for a while: don’t let that hold you back. You’ll make lifelong friends, have unforgettable experiences, and discover what you’re truly capable of. Go for it and reach your potential.
