Projects at the CVCL

The Global Leadership Development Programme is an immersive three-day experience designed to empower participants to create positive change in their own lives and in wider society.

What makes this programme unique? It’s peer-led, with our students working alongside CVCL to deliver culturally inclusive activities that foster creativity, collaboration, communication, and confidence. More than just a learning opportunity, it’s a transformative experience that enhances wellbeing, reduces social isolation, and builds resilience—all while developing essential life skills.

And the results speak for themselves! 100% of participants reported gaining new skills, with many highlighting improvements in communication, teamwork, and public speaking.

On Day 3 of this programme, the focus shifted to personal development, with interactive sessions on goal setting and action planning. Participants also had the opportunity to explore various progression routes into higher education, employment, volunteering, and community involvement, with insights from our partner organisations.

To reinforce their learning, participants completed a short summative assessment—a multiple-choice quiz designed to evaluate their understanding of the programme content. Those who achieved a pass rate of 80% or higher were awarded an accredited Continuous Professional Development (CPD) certificate in Global Leadership Development. This qualification is designed to support individuals in achieving their personal and professional growth objectives.

The programme continues to grow, with more participants joining each time! To ensure we deliver the best experience, attendees were invited to share their feedback at the end of the programme.

We’re proud to share that 43 participants provided feedback, and the results speak for themselves:

• pre-programme communication and administration – 90% rated it excellent, 7% good, and 3% adequate.
• programme organisation – a perfect 100% rated it excellent!
• programme timings – 93% rated it excellent, 5% good, and 2% average.
• programme content – 93% rated it excellent, while 7% rated it good.

Every Essentials Hub membership directly supports the initiative, with all funds reinvested to keep it running. Supplies come from generous donations, local supermarkets, and the charity Fare Share, ensuring students have access to affordable essentials.

By joining the Essentials Hub, students not only get heavily discounted groceries and supplies but also gain access to wellbeing support and community initiatives.

Students can access the Essentials Hub through a referral from a UCLan staff member. We have a dedicated Essentials Hub referral form.

What do I have to do?

The HEV fund requires our students to work with voluntary, community and faith sector organisations to plan and deliver projects which support grassroots and community activity. Our students must develop a funding application and manage the project. Funding applications will also be accepted from our students who develop a project collaboratively with a school or other public sector organisation.

Who can access the fund?

HEV funding applications must be student-led. The aim of the fund is to support students to gain experience in writing funding applications and develop project management skills. Therefore, applications submitted independently by organisations will not be considered.

However, we would still like to hear from organisations interested in accessing the HEV funding. There may be students who are interested in participating in this funding scheme who haven’t yet found an organisation to collaborate with. Please email the CVCL Team to make further enquiries.

What is the process to apply?

Students should develop and submit a HEV funding application form in partnership with an organisation. Support with the planning of a project can be accessed via the CVCL team. Students and organisations can contact us directly for this support if required.

Once submitted, your application form will be assessed by the CVCL Team. You'll be informed within five working days via email if your funding application has been successful.
