Postgraduate courses in the School of Veterinary Medicine

In order to practice as a veterinarian, you need to have completed an undergraduate degree in Veterinary Medicine and Surgery (BVMS). 

You can then complete postgraduate courses to specialise in a chosen area of veterinary medicine or to enhance your leadership skills in order to position yourself higher up in a veterinary practice business.

There is no individual masters course which would enable you to become a vet.

If you are a Clinical Tutor at one of our partner practices, you are eligible to study at 50% of the cost. Please contact the School of Veterinary Medicine Team for more information on this.

The cost of a postgraduate taught (PGT) master’s degree varies by course and study mode, so it is always worth checking the fees on the course you want to study. Visit our fees and finance page for full details, or the individual course webpage.

There may be extra costs involved (for the purchase of course-related equipment for example). You'll be told about any additional costs before you start the course.

If you’re a UK student who gained your undergraduate degree with us, you may be eligible for our Alumni Loyalty Discount, which entitles you to 20% off your tuition fees.

Most of our courses are available to study at varying qualification levels. For example, our Global Applications in One Health and One Welfare course can be studied anywhere between 1 and 3 years, and you will receive a PGCert, PGDip or MSc depending on the length of your study.

All PGCert courses are just one year of study, but due to our flexible course structure, you can complete them at a pace that suits you and your work/life schedule.

All except one of our courses are available for you to complete 100% online at a time and pace that suits you.

The only exception to this is the PGCert/PGDip/MSc Veterinary Physiotherapy and Clinical Rehabilitation which does require you to come onto our Preston Campus occasionally. This is so you can have physical interaction with the Canine Teaching Assistants.

This course is still delivered part-time with a flexible structure to work around your personal and professional commitments.
